INTRODUCTION

Law is a system of rules created and enforced through social or governmental institutions to regulate behavior, with its precise definition of a matter of longstanding debate.

The law is important for a society for it serves as a norm of conduct for citizens. It was also made to provide for proper guidelines and order upon the behavior of all citizens and to sustain the equity on the three branches of the government. It keeps society running.It helps in maintaining peace and harmony in the society and provides equality and justice to all the citizens. An effective administration in Chandigarh helps to implement these laws which includes police, judges, etc. There are three organs of the government-legislative, executive and judiciary.

Chandigarh is a well-planned city and a UT and there are certain rules that need to be followed by the citizens of the area. These laws can be passed by the UT government or the Central government but the laws made by the central government are binding upon all the states in India. There is a certain procedure also through which the guilt of the person is established if the law is broken. These laws can be divided into various categories such as:
  • CIVIL LAWS-Cases like disputes, defamation, right to education

  • CRIMINAL LAWS-Cases like murder, assault, robbery

  • TRAFFIC LAWS-Violation of traffic rules, wearing a seat belt, wrongturn,etc.

  • ADMINISTRATIVE LAW-legal liabilities of public authorities, power of the ordinary courts to supervise administrative authorities, quasi-judicial function of administrative agencies.

  • STATUORY LAW-improve a civil order,aswering a public need,codify exisiting law,etc.

  • CASE LAW-Case law is law that has been established by following decisions made by judges in earlier cases.

  • EQUITY LAW-In law, the term "equity" refers to a particular set of remedies and associated procedures involved with civil law
